An Overview of HDR Image-Based Lighting Techniques and Best Practices - Lighting CGI objects with panoramic imagery shot on location was introduced back in 1998. In his talk, FMX Program Chair Paul Debevec will overview the key developments in HDRI lighting, some of its most iconic use cases, and how it can best be practiced today, while remembering key lessons from the past.  The talk will include advanced topics including how to capture the full intensity of the sun, how to capture and simulate spatially-varying illumination, and how RGB lighting is really just an approximation in a multispectral world.

Painting with Light: Creative Image-Based Lighting for Art and Industry - What if Image-Based Lighting wasn’t just about capturing reality, but about creating it? In this session, Mark Segasby (Lightmap) is going explore how artists can use IBL as a powerful creative medium of light, bringing out the best in every subject, from accentuating sleek car profiles to crafting perfect glints on jewelry. He’ll discuss how shaping light, color, and exposure allows artists to tell stories, define moods, and highlight design - giving full creative control over how a subject is seen.

Modern Physical Shading - Recently, many renderers' Standard Material shaders have converged on similar BSDFs and layering schemes, so now is a good time to look at what this new standard looks like and how it differs from the "original" PBR scheme. Lukas Stockner (Blender Foundation) will start with the physical origins of the effects that we're trying to model, go over the components that make up these modern PBR shaders, and finally look at how this is implemented specifically in Blender's production path tracer Cycles and some interesting aspects of how such models are translated into practice.

Accelerating Artistry - Krishnan Ramachandran (Intel Corporation) is going to talk about how Intel Rendering Toolkit is integerated into Blender Cycles. You will get an insight into Intel's open source philosophy that makes Blender a very natural fit. We will also explore in some detail the kernel libraries in Intel's Rendering Toolkit like Embree - for Ray tracing, Open Image Denoise for Denoising and Open Path Guiding Library for path guiding.

Virtual Production For All Budgets - The award-winning VFX studio REALTIME hosting a session on Virtual Production. Annie Shaw, Global Executive Producer, and Sam Taylor, Head of Innovation and Development, will present recent case studies from a range of project sizes. They are going to examine how the virtual production toolbox can create efficiencies in the filmmaking pipeline, streamline workflows and allow producers to spend their budget cleverly. Alongside they will introduce their proprietary virtual camera tool and its uses across the film, episodic, games and automotive industries.
