LEGENDS REVISITED: GERTIE AND THE NINE OLD MEN

John Canemaker is an Academy Award and Emmy Award-winning independent animator/designer, animation historian, teacher, and author. He has written twelve books, on subjects ranging from Winsor McCay, Felix the Cat and Tex Avery, to numerous Disney and Pixar artists.  His articles and reviews have appeared in publications around the world, and he is in demand as a lecturer and curator.

Canemaker is a full professor and director of the Animation program at New York University Tisch School of the Arts/Kanbar Institute of Film & Television. In 2009, he received NYU’s Distinguished Teaching Award for “exceptional teaching, inside and outside the classroom.” He and his work have also received honors from film festivals, universities and institutions internationally.

FMX is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the City of Stuttgart and MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg, taking place in cooperation with the VES Visual Effects Society and ACM SIGGRAPH. FMX is an event by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by Animationsinstitut, hosting the Animation Production Days (APD), a joint venture with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS).
