Dan Charbit, DNEG, VFX Supervisor


Dan Charbit is a VFX Supervisor who most recently oversaw DNEG’s work in Montréal on ‘Altered Carbon’ Season 2. Prior to this he supervised VFX on Catch-22’; an adaptation of Joseph Heller’s classic World War II novel, starring George Clooney and Christopher Abbott. Dan’s work on the series earned him a nomination at the 2019 Emmy Awards for ‘Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role’. 

Prior to joining DNEG, Dan was at Folks where he was a VFX Supervisor on TV series like ‘Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments’ and ‘Legion’.

From 2014 to 2016, Dan was Head of VFX, VFX Supervisor and On-set Supervisor at Mokko Studio, where he worked on projects such as ‘Office Christmas Party’, ‘Rings’, ‘Warrior's Gate’, ‘Krampus’ and ‘Hitman: Agent 47’. Before this, as a Senior Compositing Artist at Rodeo FX, he worked on ‘Unbroken’, Ron Howard’s ‘In the Heart of the Sea’, ‘22 Jump Street’ and the Emmy-winning ‘Game of Thrones - Season 4’.

In 2009, after 12 years of professional work as a 2D artist, 3D artist, CG Supervisor, VFX Supervisor and Producer, which included five years at Mac Guff Ligne, Dan founded Cut and Cook Studio, a small studio focusing on TV and commercials. Along with assuming the responsibilities of the CEO, Dan was also VFX Supervisor, On-set Supervisor and sometimes Director, on more than 200 projects over four years. This included directing and supervising the CG short film ‘infime’.


FMX is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the City of Stuttgart and MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg, taking place in cooperation with the VES Visual Effects Society and ACM SIGGRAPH. FMX is an event by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by Animationsinstitut, hosting the Animation Production Days (APD), a joint venture with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS).
