Volker Engel, President, Uncharted Territory
Volker is best known for supervising the ground-breaking visual effects for the blockbuster “Independence Day”, for which he received an Oscar®. His most recent work as Co-Producer and Visual Effects Supervisor was the sequel “Independence Day: Resurgence”.
With his production company Uncharted Territory he is currently in development of several projects, among them two features based on novels by Cornelia Funke.
In 1999, Volker co-founded the production company Uncharted Territory in Los Angeles with his long-time friend and colleague Marc Weigert to develop and produce feature films and high-quality television projects. Volker and Marc co-produced the limited series “Dark Kingdom - The Dragon King” and the Sci-Fi Channel limited series “The Triangle” with Bryan Singer and Dean Devlin, for which they won an Emmy.
Volker was Co-Producer and VFX Supervisor (with Marc) for “White House Down” and the disaster epic “2012”, and he was Executive Producer and VFX Supervisor for the period drama “Anonymous”, all directed by Roland Emmerich.
Volker is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS), the British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), the Producer's Guild of America (PGA) and the Visual Effects Society (VES).
Volker lives in Los Angeles.
