Preparations at the Haus der Wirtschaft are in full swing: While you are setting up your personal FMX schedule, we are getting the last bits and bobs ready to open our doors this upcoming Tuesday. With 270 FMX events lying ahead, we are all set for four fabulous days dedicated to animation, effects, games and immersive media. Apart from the exciting conference program, FMX offers plenty of other events to make your trip to Stuttgart unforgettable. Just keep reading!

Conference Program – New tracks and the Planetarium

The Conference Program is looking fantastic. Apart from classic tracks such as Concept Art, Digital Humans, The Art of Animation, VFX Case Studies and Tools of Tomorrow, you'll get to dive into some all new tracks. Then & Now will feature the industry legends Phil Tippett (Tippett Studio) and Chris Wedge (Blue Sky Studios) who are going to shed some light on their pioneering work. Among many other artists, creators David Silverman (The Simpsons) and David Sproxton (Aardman Animations, Shaun the Sheep) will share their perspective on how they create intellectual properties in theFrom Indie to IP track. The AR Platforms track will explore AR technologies developed by industry giants such as Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Another program highlight that you shouldn't miss is the VR Experiences track hosted at the Planetarium Stuttgart. Aside from other presentations, you'll have the opportunity to experience Sonaria, a beautiful piece of immersive art by Google Spotlight Stories as well as Coco VR, the corresponding virtual reality experience of the Disney Pixar movie.

Movie Screenings – MAD GOD and Early Man

The FMX Movie Screenings have become a beloved tradition. This year, you get to enjoy not just one but two fabulous movies:

MAD GOD, directed by legendary visual effects and stop-motion craftsman Phil Tippett, is a mature film crafted from techniques and technologies that span the history of cinema.

Early Man is the latest stop-motion adventure by Aardman Animations, taking you back into the mighty bronze age.

The FMX Forum is ready for you!

The latest innovations, lots of room to make new contacts, and a buzzing atmosphere – this is the FMX Forum. We are thrilled to welcome partners from all around the globe who are already excited to get to know you. 31 companies will invite you to explore their products and services at the Marketplace, among them the FMX newbies APEC Visual, CGTrader and Rokoko as well as Mo-Sys and Xsens who were just jointly honored as one of the "Top 5 of NAB". If you want to dive deeper into different topics, you can choose from 33 workshops by 22 companies such as Binary Alchemy, Esri, Microsoft, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Alumni and employees of 21 international film and media schools are ready to explore their curricula with you, among them the Victoria University of Wellington from New Zealand and the School of Visual Arts from New York City. Moreover, you'll have the chance to introduce yourself to 26 companies at the Recruiting Hub such as the first-time exhibitors congaz Creative Media Production, Goodbye Kansas and Electric Theatre Collective.

Company Suites – The Industry from Up Close

Five Company Suites will give you the opportunity to get to know companies and their products in an intimate atmosphere. Don't miss your chance to visit Foundry, Industrial Light & Magic, Isotropix, Oculus and SideFX and learn more about what they have to offer. Masterclasses – Acting for Animators, Storytelling and Sound Design

This year's program shines with five hands-on Masterclasses. Join Craig Caldwell (University of Utah) for his Masterclass on storytelling or acting instructor and author Ed Hooks for the Acting for Animators sessions.

Benedict Caleo Green (Ecco VR) will guide you through the process of bringing linear VR visuals to life with fully spatialised sound. In the Masterclass on Creature Sound Design Beyond the Growl, Paula Fairfield (Eargasm Inc.) will share her design thoughts and experiences on films and other tv series creatures she has done including Game of Thrones, Predators and The River. Both the Masterclasses held by Benedict and Paula take place in the Mixing Stage at the Filmakademie Campus in Ludwigsburg.

Animation Production Day 2018 – Join the APD Conference

TheAnimation Production Day (APD) is a business platform for the international animation industry, hosted by the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film 2018 and FMX 2018, taking place on April 26-27.

On April 26, visitors are invited to join theAPD Conference at the L-Bank Rotunde from 13:30-17:45.

The first part will focus on challenges in the development of new content. Among other speakers will be Eric Shaw (screenwriter) who will talk about modernizing Muppet Babies, and Karina Schaapman (writer) who will present the establishment of a 360° brand with reference to Mouse Mansion. The second part will open with a keynote speech from Peter Robinson (Dubit) with facts & figures on the use of Video on Demand (VoD) and traditional TV by children and young adults. Then Miki Chojnacka (Hopster), Michael Stumpf (ZDF), Luca Milano (RAI Ragazzi) and Steffen Kottkamp (Viacom) will introduce their programming strategies. You can find further info here.
