SWR-XLab and Pixelcloud are telling how to bring serious topics like the climate crisis to a young audience by presenting their work and their latest game GreenGuardiansVR about the climate crisis. With this game, the SWR X Lab is conducting a broad-based open beta experiment: On the one hand, the aim is to gain a better understanding of VR technology, which is not yet suitable for the masses, and the associated distribution among local exhibitors or online providers. On the other hand, the opportunities and challenges offered by local or private distribution channels for journalistic content will be examined.
“GreenGuardiansVR” from SWR conveys facts and information literacy in a playful way. The virtual reality game on climate change is aimed at Generation Z and was presented to the public for the first time at Gamescom 2024, and released for SteamVR and the Meta Store this January 2025.
In the tricky and funny cooperative multiplayer action virtual reality game a mega-corporation beams you into a supposedly rosy future. But rebels hack into the system to warn you: Only together can you break through the propaganda machine and save the world! With the well-known influencers LeFloid & ItzJanina.
For people under 25, the climate crisis is often abstract, depressing or both. What can be done? How can climate journalism succeed with less shock and fear of the future, but with more interaction and teamwork, action and humor?
Instead of feeling alone and helpless in the face of these problems, players can join forces to fight the root causes of global warming and change our future in an action-oriented gameplay. Embedded in a fun and captivating story, with a fully 3D environment and characters, and challenging. Our goal for players is to gain the courage and knowledge to tackle real-world problems, as well.
