The Animationsinstitut at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg trains outstanding talents at the highest level in the fields of Animation, Visual Effects, Technical Directing, Animation/Effects Producing and Interactive Media. Beyond study, it offers international talent & IP development initiatives and promotes a vivid community between students, graduates, faculty, and staff. In addition, the institute runs a Research & Development department and curates the annual international conference FMX. The ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln is a full study and further education institution with an artistic-scientific focus. Established in 2000, the ifs is consistantly ranked as one of the best film schools in Germany.
The specialisation in VFX & Animation within the Bachelor’s programme Film offers a large-scale study programme that conveys all fundamental technical and design aspects of professional effects production and 3D animation. ACCESS:VFX is a global, industry-led, non-profit comprising 70 leading companies, industry bodies and educational establishments in the visual effects and animation industries. It focuses on actively pursuing and encouraging inclusion, diversity, awareness and opportunity under its four pillars of Inspiration, Education, Mentoring and Recruitment.ACCESS:VFX has united over 3,000 passionate people (many from competing companies) around the common goal of addressing the lack of diversity in the VFX and Animation industry. Together they have run more than 200 events and reached thousands of potential future employees of primary school age and above across the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand!
In October 2023 we launched our European Chapter which together with the help of our member companies and Netflix we expanded into 11 countries: Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Austria, Bulgaria, Belgium, and the Netherlands. We are very proud of spreading our mission into new territories!
Begoña is a freelance artist with a focus on Special Make-up Effects, prosthetics, and character & creature design. Her mentors were Neill Gorton, Rod Maxwell (from the Face-Off TV show), and Tom Hester (Designer of Shrek).
She studied Fine Arts at the University of Seville, specialising in Sculpture, Anatomy, and Drawing. After graduating from Winchester School of Art and getting her Masters in Art Photography at the University of Arts London, she enrolled in Neill Gorton’s Prosthetics Boot Camp in order to push her career forward. She has also studied sculpture with Tom Hester (designer of Shreck), Zbrush with Rod Maxwell, and Illustration & Creature Design with artist Jared Fajardo.
In 2019 Begoña was selected as the Winner of Ve Neil's Legends of Makeup Design scholarship (LA, USA), Finalist of the KNB EFX Group Legends of Creature Design (LA, USA), and Winner of The Prosthetics Event AS Make-up contest (UK).
She now works as a prosthetics & special makeup effects artist, sculptor, and illustrator, as well as a prop maker, for film and TV, and often teaches SPFX makeup at universities and other venues. Her professional work encompasses Film &TV productions, working for companies including Disney, Netflix, Warner Brothers (Damsel, Gladiartor 2, Aquaman 2, The Witcher, Willow, etc), and the BBC, and several music videos and independent films across the UK and Europe.
She has also released the only prosthetics-related book for cosplayers "Special Makeup Effects and Prosthetics: An Essential Guide for Beginners and Cosplayers", aimed at newcomers and cosplayers interested in special makeup effects, and featuring a diverse range of models and skin tones.
Begoña will be giving a talk and live demonstration of a prosthetics makeup on the main stage on Wednesday, as well as two smaller demos at her booth:
