Building Los Angeles for Westworld 3 with CityEngine

In this workshop, we take a look at the inspiration, planning and process that went into building Los Angeles for Westworld 3 (that’s actually liveable and driveable). This session will give an overview of the process as well as at the ArcGIS CityEngine pipeline integration and show some exciting results that were featured in Westworld 3.

Michael Shelton, VFX Supervisor, Pixomondo

I had a love affair with monsters and space adventures from a very young age which evolved into making my own stop motion films. Creating the creatures and spaceships was always a means to an end as it was filmmaking that inspired me.   This exploration and need to evolve led me to my first job in the industry, making puppets and props for a children's television show. The late 1980's through the 90's were a non-stop marathon of creatures, model making and optical effects work. During this time, Visual Effects was a wide-open highway, and I watched CGI burst into the world and steady its legs. From there it was no looking back.    30 years later, I still love what I do but I do it differently. My clay maquettes are now in Zbrush, my optical prints are now in Nuke, my ships blowing up are now in Houdini.
