Behind the Scenes of Marvel’s THUNDERBOLTS*

Marvel Studios’ ‘Thunderbolts*’, from director Jake Schreier, tells the story of depressed assassin Yelena Belova alongside the MCU’s latest band of misfits. To share how the old-school and new-school visual effects for the film were achieved, production visual effects supervisor Jake Morrison will sit down with befores & afters’ Ian Failes for this in-depth discussion.

We’ll dissect the approach to the VFX, including for specific scenes, revealing behind the scenes of the planning, shoot, and execution of the film’s biggest moments. You’ll also get a chance to ask Morrison about how he shepherded visual effects teams from around the world to make ‘Thunderbolts*’.

Jake Morrison

Jake Morrison, VFX Supervisor, Marvel Studios

Jake Morrison is a BAFTA-nominated, LA-based supervisor with more than 25 years experience in the film industry. He was most recently the production visual effects supervisor for Marvel Studios' ‘Thunderbolts*’. He was also the production VFX supervisor and second unit director on ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. His other VFX supervision credits include ‘Jungle Cruise’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Thor: The Dark World’. Further supervisory credits with Marvel Studios include his work as second unit VFX supervisor for ‘The Avengers’, and supervisory roles on ‘Iron Man 2’, ‘Thor’, and ‘Marvel One-Shot: Item 47’.

Ian Failes is a journalist based in Sydney specialising in visual effects and animation. Ian recently launched his own VFX and animation publication called befores & afters (beforesandafters.com) and an accompanying print magazine. He has written for fxguide, Cartoon Brew, VFX Voice, 3D Artist, 3D World and many other publications. Ian is the author of the book, ‘Masters of FX’. He holds the world's largest collection of memorabilia from the film Speed.
