The digital screen content sectors have been hot beds of technical innovation and creative exploration from the very beginning of the transformation from analogue to digital technologies.
With that change has come a growing demand for teaching and training technical skills, so that new entrants to industry can hit the ground running. Over the recent past this has created a tension between education and industry. Degree progression routes have been criticised in some quarters for not delivering job ready new entrants to industry. Universities have sometimes responded that they are developing talent to be inquisitive, solve problems and be equipped for life long, self-directed learning. Universities do not exist to only teach how to follow technical processes.Today, with the interplay of drivers like global market competition, company closures, declining demand for content and the arrival of Artificial Intelligence in the workplace, the requirements of industry for new entrants and how education responds to any change is up for debate.
