Painting Greys / Rebound / Nebeldrache / Divine Machinery / The Endling

Video on demand

Painting Greys, but with Color:  Creating a mixed media music video for Emmit Fenn’s “Painting Greys” has taught us many things. While depicting the story of a struggling perfectionist, we had to overcome our own obstacles. We went from experimenting in Houdini to finalising a project in it, worked with motion capture, used 2D elements and stop motion. And now we’re here to share  what we’ve learned.

FH Salzburg /Realtime Art & Visual Effects: Jona Melvin Grobe (Houdini Artist), Hannah Rampitsch (Houdini Artist),  Lena Schibany (Art Direction & Animation)

Rebound: A small robot tries it´s best to score a three-pointer with a basketball. With each miss, his patience gets tested more and more… With this short film i focused on telling a funny, comprehensive story, while trying to get the most visual appeal out of the basics of animation… most importantly - squashing and stretching. The film has been created by one person in the span of 5 days.

Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences: Linus Rüter (Director/Animator)

Nebeldrache – Bringing a fantasy world to life: A  mystical cave filled with ancient ruins and a dangerous lurking dragon - Nebeldrache (WT) is a proof-of-concept teaser for a fantasy series pitch. Our team worked on full-CG shots, set extensions and intricate simulations to create an immersive atmosphere. From animating the dragon to detailed environmental storytelling, every element was made to create a sense of scale and mystery.

ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln: Lennart Haak (Set Supervision, Lookdev, TD, Texturing, Shading, Compositing), Aron Nicolas Schwaab (Set Supervision, Lookdev, Modeling, Environments, Shading, Lighting, FX, Rendering) Sara Treyer (Lookdev, Layout, Animation)

Divine Machinery critically approaches the relationship between humans and generative technologies. Drawing on the concepts of Mysterium Tremendum and Fascinosum from theology, which describe awe and fear toward the divine, we apply these ideas to technology. Visitors enter a dark room, facing a physical sculpture - the Angel - embodying modern machinery. The experience during the installation is shaped by the user answering questions by touching its hands. By retaining past interactions and adjusting its conversations accordingly, each dialogue with the Divine Machinery is unique. A blend of ever changing sound, projection, lights and visuals serves to deeply immerse the participants in the experience.

University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria – School of Informatics, Communications and Media: Selina Behrens (Audio, Animations, Crafting), Simone Feldbacher (Electronics, Programming, Crafting), Sebastian Grundherr (Story Writing, Projection Mapping, Crafting), Florian Horak (Programming, Dialogue Systems), Michelle Treziak (Research, Assistance),  Julia Posch (Art Direction, Sculpting, Painting)

The Endling: Left alone in a desolate world, the Endling searches for another survivor, but his search only leads to loneliness and desperation, that is till he hears a call from his radio which reignites his hope. The Endling is a 9min long 3D animated short film produced over the span of just one semester with a mixture of handpainted and modular workflow to fit too much scope into too little time.

Hochschule Darmstadt - University of Applied Sciences:  Kasra Mani (Director), Kiara Erhardt (3D Generalist/Animator), Pia Bauer (Animator/Rigger)
