Goldberg’s Dream is an extended reality concert that reimagines Bach’s Goldberg Variations through AI, spatial audio, robotics, and projection mapping—pushing the boundaries of classical performance.
At its core, a robot embarks on a journey of musical and self-discovery. This evolving interplay of technology and emotion is mirrored in Gerriet K. Sharma’s composition This is Water and culminates in an interaction between the robot and a human pianist for Terry Riley’s In C.
But what does it mean to have consciousness? And could a robot ever achieve it?
To offer insight into the development of this groundbreaking project, XR director Jana Günther and animation director Moritz Mayerhofer will present the key creative and technical processes. They will explore the challenges and innovations behind the project—including advancements in robotics and spatial audio, as well as the creation of 82 minutes of computer-generated animation. Their talk will also highlight the contributions of composer Gerriet K. Sharma, sound experts Ana Monte and Daniel Deboy of DELTA Soundworks, and roboticist Amir Bastani of Creative Robotics.
Join us as we delve into how classical music and digital innovation merge to redefine the concert experience.
