Texturing lessons from House of the Dragon

Join Claudia Marvisi, Head of Texturing at Pixomondo, for an immersive journey into the world of visual effects. In this session, she’ll unveil the secrets to bringing awe-inspiring dragons to life in HBO’s acclaimed Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon. Claudia will dive deep into the creative process and technical wizardry that made these mythical creatures a reality, including the pivotal role played by Mari in crafting intricate textures that give the dragons their distinctive look and feel. From concept to final execution, this talk will provide an insider's perspective on the challenges of breathing life into these iconic creatures.

 

Charli Holt, Mari Product Manager, Foundry

Charli Holt is a professional with a diverse background in VFX as well as experience across Product, Quality, and Customer Engagement. As Product Manager, she currently serves as the leader of the roadmap and creative strategy for Mari, Foundry's industry-leading texturing package responsible for collaborating with both studio clients and development teams in order to create and deliver high-quality products, Charli’s primary focus is on building features for artists that prioritize the user's needs.   Charli is deeply committed to making Mari as artist-friendly as possible, and she works tirelessly to ensure that the voice of the artist is recognised throughout the development cycle. She is passionate about her work, industry and her development team; prioritizing support for a healthy work-life balance, mental health awareness, and creating an environment in which every voice can be heard and impact the future of Mari.   In addition to her professional work, Charli is a strong advocate for creating an inclusive and engaging community network of artists within the texturing space. She believes in encouraging new learners to join the VFX industry by promoting the importance of understanding texturing theory within the field. A true advocate for making space for the artists of the future, Charli's dedication to her work and her community is evident in everything she does.

Claudia Marvisi, Head of Texturing, PXO - Pixomondo

Claudia is Head of Texturing at Pixomondo, an international VFX company.   She took the role of Head of Texturing, and before as Lead, for movies and acclaimed series such as Game of Thrones - House of the Dragon, Star Wars - The Mandalorian, Halo, Raised by Wolves and Star Trek.   

More than 10 years ago she started her career as 2D artist for videogames and advertising. In 2014 she approached the VFX world as 3D generalist/texture artist, overarching to matte painting and motion graphics. Fascinated by the artistic, storytelling and technical challenges, throughout the years she specialized in texturing while keeping in touch with the rest of the production pipeline. She worked on projects such as Game of Thrones, Carnival Row, The Watchmen, Justice League, Midway and many others.  

She then became Texture Lead at Pixomondo Stuttgart and, as her lead career consolidated, she had the possibility to supervise and coordinate a growing number of talented artists until today that she is Head of Department for Pixomondo Europe.   

With the aim of bridging the gap between schools and the reality of VFX industry, she started devoting an increasing amount of time to teaching and mentoring activities, to contribute to the shaping of the next generation of artists.
