Inside Creative VFX Development for Marvel Studios' THE MARVELS

Join us for a behind-the-scenes discussion about “The Marvels” with VFX Supervisors Tara DeMarco and Sarah Eim, alongside pivotal vendor supervisors. We will discuss asset and FX ideation, creation, and collaborative sharing as we unravel the magic behind the stunning visual effects crafted for Goose, Saber Space Station, and the dynamic elements that bring this film to life.

Tara DeMarco, VFX Supervisor, Marvel Studios

Tara DeMarco is an Emmy Award-nominated Production Visual Effects Supervisor who recently served as VFX Supervisor for The Marvels directed by Nia DaCosta. The film featured highly varied visual effects work and was recognized by the Academy on the long-list of films considered in the running for the Oscar in 2023.

Prior, she served as the Production Visual Effects Supervisor on Marvel’s WandaVision where she was responsible for supervising over 3,000 shots and nearly two dozen vendors including the on set visual effects shoots with puppeteers and butterfly effects, among more. Her work on the series earned an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects. She also received recognition as a Super Clio Award nominee for her contributions to both the 2018 Doritos vs. Dew Super Bowl commercial and the 2019 NFL 100: THE 100 YEAR GAME Super Bowl commercial.

DeMarco has over 20 years of experience in visual effects. Her career began as a Flame Artist working on Super Bowl commercials and advertising campaigns. In that role, she contributed to Emmy, Cannes Lion, and DA&D Award winning work. She is also a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Sarah Eim, Additional VFX Supervisor, Marvel Studios

Sarah Eim is a veteran Visual Effects Supervisor with a two-decade-long career in Creative Lead positions at top commercial shops and campaigns. She worked as VFX Supervisor on acclaimed film and TV projects, including Marvel Studios’ “The Marvels” and “WandaVision”.

Sarah’s creative career started as a Flame Artist at Method Studios in 2004, and quickly expanded into VFX Supervision. She spent the next decade honing her craft at studios in LA and NYC, as a part of PSYOP and The Mill.

Living in Berlin, Sarah joined Woodblock Animation Studio, where she diversified her creative range, taking on more fully-animated projects, including Polynoid’s award-winning short “Loom” and BBC’s “Revolting Rhymes,” an Oscar nominee for Best Animated Short.

In recent years, Sarah’s work as VFX Supervisor for Marvel Studios brought her back to the US. She now works as a VFX Supervisor in Los Angeles and Berlin.

Ernest Dios, VFX Supervisor, TRIXTER GmbH

Ernest Dios is a multi-talented Visual Effects Supervisor with more than a decade of experience in digital compositing. During his career, he has worked on renowned projects such as Black Panther, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Marvels, Babylon Berlin, and many more.   Originally hailing from Galicia, Spain (but brought up in the artistic powerhouse of Barcelona), Ernest’s journey into the world of VFX has been guided by many artistic inspirations- from the work of classical painters, whose brilliance has endured to this day, to the groundbreaking visual effects of childhood favorites such as Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park and cinematography of talents like Greig Fraser and Roger Deakins.   Ernest's educational journey began in Physics at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, but his desire for a creative outlet eventually brought him to study media at EMAV in Barcelona, after which he started his CG career in architectural visualization. After a foray into teaching at EMAV and a venture into film production, Ernest moved to London where he worked on an expansion of Automatik VFX, alongside partners Vertigo UK and Post-Republik in Germany. Over the years, he contributed significantly to the growth of Automatik VFX; particularly with the development of their studio in Berlin. Ernest moved to Munich in 2016, working as a Compositor with various studios before settling into his role at TRIXTER, where over the years he’s risen up the ranks to Comp Lead, Comp Supervisor, and finally Visual Effects Supervisor.

Dominik Zimmerle, VFX Supervisor, TRIXTER GmbH

Strong visual acuity plus an ability to find the best approach for every production mark Dominik as a leading visual effects supervisor.   Dominik recently provided TRIXTER visual effects supervision for “The Marvels” having previously overseen the studio’s extensive visual effects for “Shang-Chi”, “Black Widow” and “Captain Marvel”. His work spanned from crafting full CG environments to creating effects-heavy battle sequences and even the scene-stealing alien cat, Goose - now for the second time.   Dominik grew up watching 2D animated movies, setting his sights at an early age on a career in animation. His talents in concept art subsequently led to an apprenticeship with TRIXTER in 2007. Recognizing his potential, Dominik rose steadily along the ranks over the following decade – from concept art trainee to compositor, lead compositor, and up to compositing supervisor before settling in his current role as VFX Supervisor.   “The Marvels” is Dominik’s sixth credit as TRIXTER VFX supervisor for Marvel Studios.
