Leo is a recent release from Netflix and Happy Madison Productions and tells the story of a 74-year-old lizard that’s been living in the same Florida school for decades but one day decides it’s time to escape! Join the film's Director, Robert Marianetti, Art Director, Kristen Anderson and Animation Director, Jason Figliozzi, as they take you through the character design process from concept to animation and all the iterations in between, with a focus on Leo and Ms. Malkin from an animated cast of over 200. They'll explore the vast range of scale in their hero characters and will breakdown the most challenging scene to reveal how they pulled off this beautifully crafted, 3D-animated musical comedy.

Kristen Anderson, Art Director, Animal Logic

Kristen has 20 years of experience in Film and TV working as art director, set designer and concept artist. She is currently the Production Designer on an unnamed Netflix animated feature. Most recently, she was the Art Director on the hit Netflix animated feature, Leo. Prior to that, she worked on Warner Animation Group’s animated feaures, The League of Super-Pets and The LEGO Movie 2.

Her previous art experience includes working in live action features, TV series, commercials, and theatre, working closely with directors and key creatives to create and drive the look throughout the project.  Some of the projects she has worked on are Fury Road, Narnia Chronicles: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Prometheus, Top of the Lake, Gods of Egypt, Wolverine, Terra Nova, Australia, Star Wars (Revenge of the Sith), Matrix 2 & 3, and Superman Returns.

Kristen first joined Animal Logic’s Sydney Studio in 2012 as a Concept Artist and Designer on The LEGO Movie. She was Set Designer on The LEGO Batman Movie and Digital Set Designer on The LEGO Ninjago Movie. In 2016, Kristen moved to Vancouver to take on the role of Art Director on The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part where she worked closely with the Director and Production Designer to develop and execute the look of the film.

Jason Figliozzi, Animation Director, Netflix

Jason is currently Animation Director at Netflix, most recently on the animated feature film, Leo. Prior to that, he has been Head of Animation (shorts), Animation Supervisor and Animator at Walt Disney Feature Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks.  His film credits include: Strange World, Raya and the Last Dragon, Far From the Tree, Frozen II, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Moana, Inner Workings, Zootopia, Big Hero 6,  Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Paperman, Tangled and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs.  Jason earned his BFA in Computer Animation from Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL.

Robert Marianetti, Director

Robert Marianetti has been in animation for a while now. Originally from Rochester N.Y., he attended NYU Film School where he had the good fortune to have famed animation historian and animator John Canemaker as his first professor and mentor. He worked at various independent New York City animation studios including R.O. Blechman's Ink Tank, Michael Sporn Animation and J.J. Sedelmaier Inc. At the latter, he met David Wachtenheim (on the first season of "Beavis and Butthead" no less). While there he also crossed paths with Robert Smigel on Saturday Night Live's TV Funhouse.   Marianetti and Wachtenheim started their own animation company in the late 90's (W/M Animation) and have been working as a team ever since. Award winning projects they've worked on include: designing and directing animation for Comedy Central, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, "Sesame Street", an animated documentary for HBO ('My Depression'), as well as being heads of story for Sony Animation's "Hotel Transylvania 2".   In 2020 Robert was hired to co-direct, along with David Wachtenheim and Robert Smigel, the animated feature "Leo" for Netflix Animation (co-produced by Happy Madison Productions and starring Adam Sandler). The film debuted on Netflix in November of 2023 at no. 1 both in the U.S. and internationally. It remained in the streaming Top 10 of most viewed films for over 5 weeks. He currently resides in Brooklyn with his wife Brett.  They have two grown sons: Zach and Max.
