Animationsinstitut | Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg

https://animationsinstitut.de/en

Booth number number S 16

Animationsinstitut was founded in 2002 as part of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Since then it has evolved into one of the most internationally renowned academic institutions for animation, VFX and games. All Filmakademie students complete the interdisciplinary, two-year basic studies together. This is followed by two-and-a-half-years of project-based studies, allowing for intense team efforts as well as the specialization in a chosen field of study.

Studying at Animationsinstitut gives students the opportunity to develop their own artistic style and, building on that, to develop their own ideas, which can then serve as a basis for a successful start-up.

Distinguished guest lecturers from Europe, the USA and Germany teach students, while a lively exchange with leading international film schools is taking place.

Training follows a practice-oriented and project-based approach and is always state of the art, giving students the opportunity to implement 360° and VR projects, too. A 3D stereo digital cinema as well as an Optitrec motion capture and NCam system are also available. In addition, students have access to Filmakademie’s entire infrastructure, which includes a digital 4K cinema with Dolby Atmos sound system.

Thanks to their great success at major festivals, where their diploma projects win internationally renowned awards, Animationsinstitut alumni are much sought-after. After finishing their studies, graduates start working in film studios all over the world or found their own companies.

Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf

https://www.filmuniversitaet.de/

Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF is a place where film comes alive, a school representing a wealth of different stories and artistic forms, genres and formats, specialization and exchange. Our unique craft-oriented and interdisciplinary education enables creative people to develop their own filmic language. In research and teaching, we focus on both scientific and artistic approaches and, thus, actively contribute to the development of media, science, and society.

Master Program: Animation Direction

Focusing on one-to-one instruction to promote individual artistic development, the film university's Animation Direction M.F.A. program enables students to expand their artistic, technical, dramaturgical, and concept design skills.

As the program allows students to acquire a wide range of skills – e.g., in animation, storyboarding, concept design, background art, character design, modeling, rigging, texturing, shading / lighting, compositing, and art direction – numerous career opportunities in the fields of film, TV, games, illustration, sequential art, and liberal arts are available to graduates. In addition to preparing you for a career in the freelance business, the program also includes training on how to plan the production of an animated film and manage a team. The increasing importance of animation for the Internet and mobile devices opens up new fields of work. The goal of the M.F.A. program is the independent production of an animated auteur film or the completion of a complex animation project (e.g., artistic research, expanded animation, hybrid formats, or sequential art) during the graduation phase.

Master Program: Set / Production Design / VFX

This Master program has 2 major fields of study - Production Design and VFX. The program enables students to further refine the artistic signature, which they have developed during their undergraduate studies, to work independently in the field of set design.

During the M.F.A. program, students focus on the research and conceptual development required for the creation of spaces, settings, costumes, and make-ups.They become familiar with digital filmmaking techniques and learn how to appropriately employ visual effects. Moreover, they engage in the academic discourse on film form in the disciplines of history, cultural studies, and humanities. Managing the art department in numerous interdisciplinary film projects, students get the opportunity to put their knowledge about the philosophical, esthetical, ethical, and semiotic implications of the creation of images and spaces as well as about legal and economic aspects of set design into practice. These projects allow for both independent creative work during the conceptual phase and professional teamwork during implementation.

Master Program: Creative Technologies

The master program Creative Technologies combines audio-visual media technologies and software development studies with an artistic-creative exploration of novel forms of expression in film and digital media art. Creative-artistic computer scientists as well as technically oriented media designer come together in the context of the Film University to experiment with technology, creativity and film with an interdisciplinary approach.

Focus are all mechanisms that contribute to the magic of movies: from graphics, sound and visual effects over traditional production processes to novel forms of storytelling in XR (Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, Augmented Reality), cross-media, and interactive.

The long history of the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and its fundamental values and resources offer the first steps of a successful career. As part of a university, which teaches film practices but is equally research oriented, the master program Creative Technologies is unique in Germany.

University of Luxembourg Competence Centre

https://u.competence.lu/bda-fmx

Did you know that you can actually study animation design in Luxembourg?

The University of Luxembourg Competence Centre offers a Bachelor’s degree in Animation for students keen on animation design, be it for film and video production or game design. This unique study programme in Luxembourg is proposed in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg and gives access to a full diploma, validating all the skills necessary for entering the animation design industry.

Part of the Competence Centre’s mission is to develop and support academic training programmes that meet the needs of the market. Having been approached by the LAM (Lycée des Arts et Métiers) to help them with the evolution of their BTS in Animation Design, the Competence Centre designed a downstream study programme centred on 3D skills with a strong inclination towards professional competencies. With a prior acquisition of 60 ECTS, students can apply and after 2 years get a bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) delivered by the University of Luxembourg.

What makes this study programme stand out, is the fact that it is the first bachelor in 3D animation in Luxembourg. The course instructors are professionals from the animation industry, thus as a student you get field-related expertise and an outstanding opportunity for a firsthand glimpse behind the scenes via internships and the realisation of a final project demoreel. Classes are small, multiculturale and bilingual (French / English). The curriculum is personalised, giving the students a high degree of autonomy and a quality level of support at any given time.

The bachelor is based on Belval Campus where a dedicated lab with 3D workstations is exclusively at the disposal of the students. In terms of sanitary security, this is an unbeatable advantage. And if that wasn’t enough, as students of the University of Luxembourg, they can take advantage of all facilities on campus, like the Luxembourg Learning Centre e.g., and this for only 200 Euros tuition fees each semester.

The second admissions wave for 2021/2022 will run from 17th May 2021 to 18th July 2021.
