A Fluffy Remote Collaboration - The Making of "Cat and Moth"

Ditto, a fluffy white cat, wants nothing more than to take her afternoon nap in the most comfortable spot in the universe. Little does she know that someone else has their eye on it too...

Inspired by observations of the bemusing behaviour of her beloved feline friends, character animator and cat lover India Barnardo directed the playful natured short animation film Cat and Moth. She created it with a team of more than 90+ filmmakers scattered all over the world working on this project entirely online, made possible through the collaborative platform Artella. India Barnardo and some of the team will walk you through the cutting-edge concerted Making of Cat and Moth.

India Barnardo, Director

India is currently a CG Character Animator by day, and Director by night. She loves to paint, draw, write, and of course hang out with her cat Walter.

She has worked in many different forms of animation across a variety of studios across the world for over ten years now. Such studios include Studio AKA, Framestore, MPC, Troll VFX, L'Atelier Animation, Bron Studios and now she is currently working at Sony, based in Vancouver, on an upcoming unannounced Netflix project.

Whilst moving around the world she has been avidly directing her short film Cat and Moth in her spare time, which she brings to FMX to present how she and the team collaborated across the world, to bring it to reality.

Amar Chundavadra, Creative CG Supervisor

Amar has worked as a senior character technical director for 12 years at feature animation and VFX studios based in the UK and USA such as Laika, Framestore, Method Studios and MPC.

As Creative CG Supervisor Amar has been working shoulder to shoulder with India and the Cat and Moth team, addressing a medley of creative and technical substratum along the way.

Liv Muir Wilson, Composer

Liv attended the University of York, where she specialised in the history of British film music, pop music and sound recording.

Now based in Sheffield, she has written for 20 projects to date, from live-action dramatic shorts to themes for radio series and stop-motion animation.

With experience as an orchestral violist, choral singer and director and bass guitarist in bands and pit orchestras, she prioritises creating an immersive sound world for each story she tells in her music. Alongside composition, she currently works as a musical director for Sheffield choir Neighbourhood Voices, session bassist, teacher and freelance arranger.

Martyn Smith, Editor & Story

Martyn ventured the lands, scouring the horizon and found a passion for storytelling and animation. He has worked all over the world, supplying his talents, and carrot cakes, to colleagues far and wide for over a decade. He's worked in feature animation on films such as Ballerina and The Willoughbys.

He has also been known to dip his toes into VFX, commercials, game cinematics and short films. From those experiences he brings his plethora of insights and knowledge to the Cat and Moth team.

Martyn first got involved by starting with story, collaborating with Amar and India. He went on to lend a hand in animation and single handedly carried the edit for the entire project, whilst supporting the story and the production of the film in its entirety.
