Join visual development artist Griselda Sastrawinata-Lemay as she shares some of her favorite designs for Walt Disney Animation Studios, focusing on her inspiration and approach to costume design.
Griselda "Griz" Sastrawinata-Lemay is a visual development artist for Walt Disney Animation Studios. She is also an author and illustrator, as well as the other half of Griz and Norm. Griz was born in Indonesia and fell in love with animation as a little girl watching Walt Disney's Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. She graduated as a valedictorian from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and then joined Dreamworks Animation Art team as an artist. In 2015, Griselda's dream of being a Disney artist came true. She joined the Walt Disney Animation Studios Art Department as a visual development artist specializing in character and costume design along with vis-dev concept pieces and has worked on Raya and the Last Dragon, Frozen 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Olaf's Frozen Adventure, Moana, and Inner Workings. She has contributed to the upcoming Encanto, and is currently working on an unannounced Disney feature animated film.
Her contributions also include Home, Penguins of Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragons 2, Me and My Shadow, the Croods, Kung Fu Panda: Legend of the Masters, Rise of the Guardians, Neighbors from Hell, Puss in Boots, the Three Diablos, Donkey Christmas Shrektacular, and Shrek Forever After. She was also part of the development team in concept movies such as Doodle, Zodiac, Time Crime, Trolls, Imaginary Enemy, American Girl, and Best Witch Ever (all working titles).
