The MultiMediaArt study program at the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg offers project-oriented education in multimedia design and content creation. Specializing in design, animation, film, and audio, the program focuses on project work to prepare students for their future creative careers. The training is modeled on top animation and game studios, and students create computer games, full CG films, or feature films with high VFX content. In collaboration with the technical degree program MultiMediaTechnology, students can fill any position, whether it's 3D animation, screen and character design, sound design, or tool and game programming. The Hochschule der Medien is a state university for applied sciences in Stuttgart-Vaihingen.

The degree program in audiovisual media offers training in Computer Animation, Film, VFX, Sound Production, Interactive Media and Games, and Television and Event Media.

Students of the Hochschule der Medien graduate as creative media engineers with a bachelor or master of engineering. Both bachelor and master-level course programs in games, interactive visualizations – VR, AR, 360° – are offered through the HdM’s Institute for Games. The univerity’s newly established Visual Media Lab (VMLab) investigates various areas of visual competence, e.g., through new color spaces, HDR, and higher frame rates. In the Digital Media college, a joint doctoral program in cooperation with the universities of Stuttgart and Tübingen, 20 doctoral projects are developing new technologies and algorithms in the areas of computer graphics and visualization, image and sound processing, i.e., visual effects and media technology. Other research topics include visual analytics methods, processes for image encoding, and development of new color standards for cinema, television, and other imagegenerating devices. In addition to numerical processes to calculate virtual fluids and textiles, the operatorsystem interface and barrier-free media are also being investigated. Application possibilities for high-performance computing in media productions are being investigated at the Hochschule der Medien in cooperation with the Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg (MSC-bw).

The media faculty at the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences offers 2 bachelor´s (7 semesters) and one master's degree (4 semesters) in which graphics, web design, film, VFX, audio, animation, games and interactive media can be studied. The Bachelor of Arts degree in mediengestaltung produktion is for students who want to focus entirely on the design of the different media.Those who would like to have a little more diversification can choose medien und kommunikation Bachelor (previously Medien und informationswesen, revised from WS23 on) or Medien and Kommunikation in the Master study (optionally M.A. or M.Sc.). Here, in addition to the design subjects, marketing, social media, media informatics and media technology are also taught. Another course will be added in the winter semester of 2023: Virtual Worlds and Game Technologies, which will focus on the design and programming of realtime applications, like visualisations, simulations or prototyping in XR or games.

Luleå University of Technology started offering courses in VFX, CG and game development in 1995, making it one of the oldest schools of its kind in northern Europe. Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest

MOME Anim is one of the most important creative centers of Hungarian animation.
