Virtual Production and real-time technology are currently changing the game of film and media production. Any story, any world imaginable can now be brought into a studio, increasing the creative freedom, flexibility and sustainability of projects in unprecedented ways.
FMX is excited to announce, that !for the first time ever! a Virtual Production Stage – powered by ARRI Solutions, disguise, Neumann&Müller, ROE Visual, TrackMen and Unreal Engine is coming to FMX 2022! The partners teamed up to bring a state-of-the-art LED Wall to the conference, showcasing an exclusive Unreal scene for FMX visitors to get a hands-on experience of what it's like to shoot on a VP Stage. This will give them the freedom to experiment with VP and discuss their questions with experts on site!
In addition, the audience can join a daily fireside chat with FMX Program Chair HaZ Dulull and fellow industry experts on the VP Stage as they discuss their experiences with virtual production, among them Paul Debevec (Netflix), Shelley Smith (DNEG Animation) and Victor Perez.
Panel Discussion: Real Vs. Unreal
When real-time graphics look as realistic as they do in Epic Games’ THE MATRIX AWAKENS: AN UNREAL ENGINE 5 EXPERIENCE, what implications does that have on our industry and on our daily lives? This session with Kim Libreri (Epic Games), Solomon Rogers (Magnopus), Deepa Patel (Consultant, Fetzer Institute) and Paul Debevec (Netflix) will look at how the lines are blurring between our realties — the real world and the virtual world — and what role real-time technologies will play in the creation of the metaverse.
An Epic Animation Journey with William Joyce & DNEG Animation
MR. SPAM GETS A NEW HAT is a short film collaboration between DNEG Animation and Academy Award-winning director, William Joyce. The first film at DNEG Animation to utilize real time technology meant that it required creative problem solving from both the production, the technology, and the leadership.
After an introduction from Bill Joyce, Taylor Moll, Gabriele Pellegrini and Shelley Smith (all DNEG Animation) will discuss their creative journey and the impact using Unreal Engine had on the production schedule. They will move into an exciting live demo that will mimic what a review with the director was like (and give a sneak peek at the tools used).
The World to Come - A look ahead at Metaverse experiences
This panel with Raffaella Camera, Matthew Henick, Quentin Staes-Polet (Epic Games), Mark Curtis and David Droga (Accenture Interactive) will be an inspiration for creators and thought leaders on what the Metaverse experience of the future could look like, and what we need to do today in order to be ready for this and drive innovation forward.
Animating the Future with Unreal Engine
With BRON Digital utilizing elements from live action VFX, traditional animation and virtual production pipelines, Jason Chen (BRON DIGITAL) will discuss the efficiencies, road blocks and innovations revolving around the division's current slate of projects, all being produced in realtime.
Balenciaga Fall '21 - Discover The Real-Time Cinematic Love Story
As a follow-up to Balenciaga’s ‘Afterworld: Age of Tomorrow’ video game, The Mill was commissioned to create an in-engine cinematic set within the same world, directed, filmed and rendered using Epic’s Unreal Engine. Kristian Bonne Jensen and Nick Slade (both The Mill) take a look behind the scenes at how The Mill’s team approached this epic feat, using motion captured actors and 3D scanned real-life fashion models to showcase Balenciaga’s Fall 2021 collection.
