Melanie Beisswenger, Professor, Audiovisual Media programme, Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart

Melanie Beisswenger is an animator and director with extensive experience in feature animation, VFX and realtime applications. Her character animation credits include the Academy Award winning feature film ‘Happy Feet’ and its sequel ‘Happy Feet 2’, the TV launch commercial for the BioShock game, as well as work on the VFX feature ‘Iron Man 3’. For the German live action feature films 'Saphirblau' and 'Smaragdgrün', she was the Lead Animator responsible for the digital 3D character. Melanie's animated short film 'There's Bliss in the Kiss' has won multiple awards at international festivals; her site specific video art animation „Dance Experiments” was screened at the media façade of the Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb MSU, in association with the World Festival of Animated Film - ANIMAFEST Zagreb in June 2016, and she has contributed a chapter on computer animation to the book ‘Animation: From Concept to Production' by Hannes Rall. Since February 2018, Melanie is Professor for Games and Animation at Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart. From 2014 - 2018, she was Professor in the Media Design programme at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz. She is also appointed as censor at The Animation Workshop in Denmark, where she previously occasionally taught animation. From 2007 - 2010, Melanie was Asst. Professor at the School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, involved in building their BFA Digital Animation programme. While there, she was also busy as Committee Member and Producer for the Computer Animation Festival of the first instance of SIGGRAPH Asia in Singapore in 2008.

FMX is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the City of Stuttgart and MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg, taking place in cooperation with the VES Visual Effects Society and ACM SIGGRAPH. FMX is an event by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by Animationsinstitut, hosting the Animation Production Days (APD), a joint venture with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS).
