Interactive VR Cinema "Conscious Existence"

With his new virtual-reality experience ‘Conscious Existence’, Marc Zimmermann honors life’s most precious achievement: the conscious mind, which enables us to hold within us the universe's boundless beauty - a source of infinite inspiration that fuels our inner space. Being aware of and grateful for the invaluable fortune of a ‘Conscious Existence’ is vital for a life in harmony and enables us to use our precious gift within to sense that beauty in every little thing.

The multi-user version of this virtual reality short film combines pre-rendered visuals with group interaction and allows to have a shared experience with up to 120 users in a movie theatre using the latest sync-VR technology. Become part of a first of its kind multi user interactive VR Cinema session.

The interactive VR experience will be followed by an insight into the production process.

‘Conscious Existence’ has been produced as part of the VR NOW talent initiative of Animationsinstitut at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg and supported by the MFG Filmfunding. As first of its kind it can also be experienced as an interactive, collaborative VR Cinema, thanks to the support of evrbit and Samsung.

Marc Zimmermann

Marc Zimmermann, Digital Artist, Epicscapes,

Marc Zimmermann is a digital artist with a passion for visual effects, matte painting and digital environments, Born in Dresden, Germany, he studied Animation/VFX at the Filmakademie Baden-Würtemberg. Since 2015 he has been working as a freelancer for film and commercial productions. In his personal projects he uses CG environments to tell stories and express feelings, emotions and concepts.

Axel Steinkuhle

Andreas Schuster

Andreas Schuster, Research Engineer, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg,

Andreas Schuster joined the R&D team in 2015 and is working on current research projects as well supporting the supervision of the Technical Director studies. During the studies of Media Art Andreas focused on computer visualization, interactive media and visual effects. After his diploma he worked in the fields of interactive installations using game engines and custom made user interfaces, and through a co-founded company he realized media installations for customers in Germany. Following the interests in visual effects Andreas worked as digital artist in the national film industry and later moved to Weta Digital as Technical Director. He worked on the workflow between the artistic and the technical side in movie productions like "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "The Hobbit". At the research department Andreas is currently developing virtual production tools and in general his field of interests are digital content creation, visual effect work flows and real time application

FMX is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the City of Stuttgart and MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg, taking place in cooperation with the VES Visual Effects Society and ACM SIGGRAPH. FMX is an event by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by Animationsinstitut, hosting the Animation Production Days (APD), a joint venture with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS).
