Jacques Bled, CEO, Illumination Mac Guff

With a career of 30 years in creative medias spanning from digital visual effects for commercials and cinema to 3D animation Jacques Bled is a recognized figure of the media industry.

Upon completion of his cinema and social studies, Jacques Bled co-founded Mac Guff Ligne in 1986, a digital visual effects design studio specializing in 3D animation and VFX for commercials and feature films ("Azur et Asmar", "Irréversible", "Un Prophète", "La Haine", "Kirikou 3”…).

In August 2011, Jacques Bled became CEO of Illumination Mac Guff, a new company created by Universal Pictures. The animation studio based in Paris produced the franchise Despicable Me (2010-2017), "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" (2012), "Minions"(2015), “The Secret Life of Pets” (2016) and “Sing” (2016). The studio is currently working on a slate of 4 films, “The Grinch” (2018) and the sequels of “The Secret Life of Pets” (2019), “Minions” (2020) and “Sing” (2020). Three more untitled films have been announced, with release dates up to 2023.

Jacques was promoted "Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" in 2009. He was also named « Personality of the year » for 2013 by readers of the magazine Le Film Français. Jacques is currently president of the college cinema of the SPFA (Animation Producer’s Film Union), vice-president of Animation & VFX at the FICAM (French Technical Industries’ Union) and a member of the commission of the CNC’s “avance sur recette”.

FMX is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the City of Stuttgart and MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg. taking place in cooperation with ACM Siggraph. FMX is an event by the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, organized by Animationsinstitut, hosting the Animation Production Days (APD), a joint venture with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS).
